For my digital story I want to illustrate the story of someone that fails to receive a job because of what they have put on the internet. I think this is relative because it has to do with a very prevalent problem and is because of digital media, mainly social media. I want to do this through either several different stills, a movie, or a comic. I am not yet sure which one to do yet, but I want to somehow use visuals to show my story. My story will begin with a person at a party three years before the interview. There they will drink too much and put pictures of themselves doing illegal activities on the internet. Then we will fast forward to the present three years later, where the person will be sitting in a waiting room before going to the interview of their dream job. Then I will show the boss of the company doing a quick google search before the interview and finding the picture. They will then conduct the interview and he will not get the job. I have experience in editing film, but I have never really made a story, filmed, and edited it all together. I may have to use still pictures to form a somewhat live comic book which I have never done, but think would be extremely interesting to try.

This article tells us how people have been getting in trouble and why they have been getting in trouble with their employees.
For our project we have decided to make a petition against the NSA spying. We have decided to this because it is an important issue in today’s society. To accomplish our goal of getting the petition to congress we have decided to make a wiki that explains what our cause is about. We will get people to visit this site and to sign our petition by posting it on Facebook and twitter and other social networks. This is the best way to form our project because things can be spread on social media than anything else. It allows us to reach people that we would never be able to actually meet in person. People can share the link with parents and friends and family, and from there it can spread faster and faster until we get all the signatures we need. This form of social action project is the best for our cause because of the rapid way it can spread and the amount of people it can reach that we couldn't even imagine.

My group has decided to address the issue of the NSA surveillance. This issue is more prevalent now than ever because it is such a recent issue. Americans have been made aware of the NSA spying not only on them but also on world leaders. People are worried because they don't see this as right. Spying on your countries own people is wrong because they are part of the country and deserve the trust of the government. And as for spying on our allies this is also morally wrong because they have trusted us with their peace and we have not respected that by spying on them. Until recently we have been spying on thirty five world leaders, and when Obama was "made aware" of this he  made a decision and ended the program as far as we know. The White House has avoided confirming or denying whether the report is true, instead choosing to reiterate that they are not currently and will not monitor the phone calls of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who raised the issue in a phone call with Mr. Obama last week. Obama claiming that he did not know about the NSA and their program makes him look weak. CBS News Senior National Security Analyst Juan Zarate said the president should know about surveillance programs at that level, and that it would be the responsibility of the Director of National Intelligence - currently James Clapper - to ensure that Mr. Obama knows the scope of what the intelligence community is doing. Because our country is spying on people and our president is claiming he knows nothing about it, we need to make a change and try and have the people reach out and get congresses attention about this issue. That is what my group is trying to do with our petition.

1. The author says that MUDs offer us a way to become actors and wear different masks. Can this be seen as good or bad? Why or why not?

2. Can the internet help us continue to be flexible and healthy? Why or why not?

3. How can we embrace our "alters" and still remain ourselves?

There are millions of different topics that can be discussed when talking of social justice and digital media. The topic that I choose to cover is that of privacy on social media sites. Privacy is becoming more and more important to Americans as we continue to learn of how we are slowing losing our privacy. I believe that is this relevant now more than ever. Today more and more kids are joining social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Kids don’t realize the dangers that can come with posting pictures or thoughts online. Many schools have implemented speeches or class time to teach kids about the dangers of posting things online and how it can lead to them being cyber bullied  These classes are being implemented too late in life. These risks need to be brought to the attention of kids sooner in order for it to have any real impact on them. It is clear to all of America the risks that come with kids being cyber bullied. There have been cases all across the nation of kids being driven to suicide through cyber bullying.  These cases are not always because of kids posting inappropriate things, but one case is enough to start raising attention.

I like the idea of doing guerrilla art. It seems like an exciting medium to use in order to get a point across. I want to experiment the idea of doing side walk chalk. I believe that this medium if placed in the right spot can truly get the word out about the topic, because if it is placed in an area of high foot traffic then anyone who walks by will be able to see it. This has been used in the past in order to raise awareness about hunger by several different college schools. People have also used this to raise awareness about domestic violence. I believe that this is a great way to raise awareness about privacy on social media. This is a new and interesting form of art. Because it is new, I think it is a great to relate to the new issue of online privacy. It is really popular with the youth of America and that is who we are trying to reach with the message. I think if we went onto our campus and drew the logos of the popular social media sites with messages like "how many of your friends do you know?" or "who all do you want to see this picture?" it would raise awareness to the kids on our campus.

This week we were able watch a video about how hard drives of old computers can be used to steal all of your information. These hard drives are a part of the tons of ewaste that we ship to third world countries to dispose of. In these countries there are high level criminals that are taking the hard drives and stealing peoples money. I was absolutely amazed by this. We have been learning about how we get rid of our ewaste and as bad as it was I wasn't really shocked by it too much. We are a powerful country and it doesn't really surprise me that we would do this to another countries population. However when I saw that information can be easily taken off of these computers and used against the previous owner I was stunned. Our country is supposed to have our back and protect us, and meanwhile they are shipping our private information to countries miles away. I thought of how my family could lose all our money and our personal information can be observed by people I don't even know. Its pitiful that we know about this, and yet we continue to ship millions of tons of ewaste to countries miles away. I will know never leave my hard drive in a computer in fear that it will end up in the hands on someone with the knowledge to use it against me.
Why do you think the kid in the video said that "this is a place where kids grow up fast?"

How could people help this place bounce back and become a clean healthy place to live?

Why do you think that companies don't wipe the drives that they get rid of?
